De Rosa
De Rosa was a Scottish rock band, known for their impressive guitar playing and singing in a Scottish accent.
De Rosa started in 2003 in Glasgow, Scotland. The band consisted of Martin Henry on vocals and guitar, Chris Connick on guitar, James Woodside on bass, Neil Woodside on drums, and Andrew Bush on piano and keyboards.
De Rosa began their performances as a guitar reliant indie rock band, with frequent use of melancholic slowcore elements, along with Scottish folk and electronic music. However, the band often said that they were influenced by an array of alternative rock bands from the 1980s and 1990s. The band was also known for the meaning and emphasis to their lyrics, which were sung in a heavy Scottish accent. When asked about his accent and use of lyrics, the lead singer, Martin Henry, said that is his attempt to give “post-industrial Lanarkshire a place in culture.”
De Rosa released two albums, before they split in 2009. Their first album, Mend, was released to great critical success, and was voted as the 16th best album of 2006, in the UK music magazine Mojo. Their second album was released by the popular music label Chemikal Underground in 2009. After release of both albums, the band went on to complete successful tours of the UK and Europe.
